Happy New Year - 2013

Happy New Year

What have you done for the deserted, homeless, helpless and hungry animals this past year? What will you do to help them next year?

"Helpless Animals" is not a individual country's problem but a world wide, planetary problem. What laws protect sentient  beings. But what is a sentient being... Well, break the words down, "SENTIENT" means, conscious, alert, attentive, awake, responsive.  A "BEING" means, life form, organism, creature, living being, human being, person, individual, mortal.

What separates a human from any other animal?  The ability to communicate. What is communication?  the dictionary states: to converse, talk, speak, exchange a few words, commune, be in touch, correspond, write, be in contact.

Other animals communicate. How you ask? They exchange sounds, they use body language, tail wags, hair stands on end, they raise their backs to give a bigger impression of themselves, they sniff each other, they clean and manicure each other. They leave their scent so others of thier kind can find them or stay away.

They form family groups. Protect their territory.

Some people say this is instinct, but most  animals can be taught, so there is some intelligence to learn. Do we think less of their means of communication because we don't understand it?  Is this the problem of the animal, or humans?

We consider ourselves humane, but what humane individuals sets a dog on fire for the fun of it, or shoots a cat or cooks a live kitten in a microwave, throws a dog into traffic, a man beats his wife's dog to death with his bare hands because of a fight they had and all because we can.

Internationally, or each country has laws protecting each human from the mischief and malice of other individuals, but what laws protect the other sentient beings on earth?

Human compassion should protect them but it doesn't. Make Laws to protect all sentient beings.

Now the question is what will you do this year to help the other sentient beings of this planet? Donate food, blankets, bedding?

Pick a group that is interested in helping others and do what you can. Not everything involves money.

I have picked two additional groups to help this year.

1. Lets adopt global - http://blog.myletsadopt.com/  it is in Spain and Viktor helps UN-helpable animals survive and get well. He does this on individual gifts. Some say each one of the animals he helps are so bad off thery should be put down, Viktor believes that as long as an animal fights for life they should be helped to live. We don't put down humans, we shouldn't put down an animal if at all possible.

2IN MEMORY OF VUČKO     raising awareness and funds to stop animal suffering in Sarajevo and Bosnia-Herzegovina.  http://inmemoryofvucko.wordpress.com/
I don't have a lot of money but I'm sewing dog blankets and sleeping pads and coats. These items are being sent to Bosnia-Herzegovina twice a month.  They desperately need money to buy food and veterinarian services and shelter.

Please consider adopting a group even a dollar a month can help provide food for the starving or shelter for the cold and homeless.

And if you would take the time and this only takes time.. go to the animal rescue site -   http://www.theanimalrescuesite.com/clickToGive/home.faces?siteId=3
Click on the button that gives food for free.. It only takes time.

May your new year be filled with helping others as you would want to be helped

Thank you

#Suffering in Sarajevo

Suffering in Sarajevo

by Sandra Jensen
199779_10200259412390767_854039128_n
On Christmas eve a dog was found dead and brutalized by hunters. This is a very common occurrence. Why do they do it? Because they can.
399234_10200259411870754_856068770_n
This poor dog was one of many strays that the animal welfare activists in Sarajevo feed:
540437_10200259421190987_2124686550_n
There are over 11,000 strays in Sarajevo. Winter is a terrible time for them with temperatures hitting minus 20 or worse, and as always there are so many who are ill or wounded. Jelena Paunovic and other animal welfare activists make daily trips to feed the strays. Last winter in Sarajevo the snow was almost two meters high and every day they would find many dogs and cats dead on the streets, dead from starvation or frozen to death. Funds are desperately needed to pay for food.
574960_10200278052936769_1872937246_n   314054_10200278054696813_1567640548_n        6104_10200278058576910_757209715_n
And it is not just the dogs.

 cat
This is one of several stray cats near a farm in Sarajevo. The people who feed them do not have anything other than bread to feed the cats. Cats cannot live on bread. Jelena went there to give them some cat food. She discovered that there are 3 females who give birth every year. Spaying costs 40 euros (about $55 USD) and the cheapest cat food costs 1,5 EUR per kilogram. A contribution of 120 Euros (about $165 USD) will mean that dozens of kittens will not be born to suffer a life of neglect, starvation and abuse. Please help.

#CRITIAL SITUATION - HELP ME

Copied from IN MEMORY OF VUČKO

Raising awareness and funds to stop animal suffering in Sarajevo and Bosnia-Herzegovina

CRITICAL SITUATION

winteratedinspension
The rescues at this particular pension in Sarajevo have no heating. There are nine dogs at this pension, most of them quite young. Marley and Tessa are outside (with a dogs house to sleep in, but no heating) and all the others are sleeping in a garage. It is VERY cold, temperatures already going down to minus 10 and it will get much colder. Jelena Paunović couldn’t take many photos because her fingers were frozen.  What is worse is that all the dogs are very unwell with demodex and lowered immune systems. These are the dogs that survived canine parvovirus and Tessa, one of the dogs, barely survived pneumonia and has an enlarged heart. See “Things Are Not Good In Sarajevo“.
If we can’t find a solution the dogs may not survive the winter. I am not sure what the solution can be. The only suitable pension is King Pension and there is no space there. Perhaps we can raise funds for blankets, straw, or even for electric heating to be brought into the garage. I’m working on this and will update but funds are needed to get these dogs through the winter, at the very least with very high quality food. Jackets for each dog cost around 40 Euros ($USD 50) unless they can be mailed over, but this can take up to 6 weeks from the USA.

Lacey

My Dog CoCo
I want to talk about how many incidents of animal abuse we have been seeing in the last few years. Is it that we as the human race have always been this evil, or is it that a new horrible attitude of I can do what I want, without being punished has developed in recent years?

What causes a person to torture a defenseless animal? Some say sexual gratification or dominance and anger. I read somewhere years ago that there was one  Psychopath in every seven people. One in seven that is a lot of problems.

Have we caused this by being to leasy on our children?  Was the right attitude for the care and giving we need in humanity presented and developed in our children?

What causes children to burn a dog alive or cook a live kitten in a microwave, or take a gun to school and kill class mates or people watching a movie, or a husband to beat the family dog because he is mad at the wife, or a mother to drive her three children, seat belted in the back seat into a lake and drown them?

Not everyone in the world is like this but, do we become involved when we see abuse happening? Do you look the other way?  Years ago a young woman was raped and killed while people in the apartments around her either watched or ignored her crys for help, no one even called the police. Can we continue this way?

No we have to become involved, we must help. When you see someone committing a crime report it. I'm not saying jump into it with the person beating their dog, but I would; I am saying stand right there and call the police tell them,  get pictures from your smart phones. Maybe if you talk to the person they will stop what they are doing...but don't get hurt.. do become a hero, help and protect!

I started this post  because of Tidus (in Spain - burned alive and fighting to live, you can donate at Lets adopt Global) and that poor kitten who was cooked in a microwave, and Now Lacey who was hit by a golf club and had bleach thrown in her eyes and left tied to a tree, to die.

You can read about Lacey at:  http://www.bakersfieldnow.com/news/local/111822114.html?tab=video&c=y

Think about giving a donation to a shelter near you or an animal who is fighting for their lives because of us humans.

Justice For Ayten Hope

JUSTICE FOR AYTEN HOPE

This petition was published by Marmaris Animal Welfare on Oct 05, 2012

Target: Muğla Veterinerler Odası
Region: Turkey

Petition Background (Preamble):

Ayten Hope is a beautiful and gentle Chocolate Dobermann. We know at some point she has had puppies. She is only 2 years old and has the most horrible story to tell. She watched her two brothers being shot to death in a forest. She was also shot- twice in her leg and left to die by a river. Angels must have watched her and she was taken to a local vet.

The vet operated on her in the most incompetent, butcherous and barbaric way, being described by other veterinarians as 'experimented on'. This resulted in her becoming paralysed and in pain. They did not even remove the bullet fragments from her frail and dying body. The vet then tried to rehome Ayten Hope. The neglect and mistreatment she received while she was ‘’in the care of’’ this evil vet cannot be understood. She lost more and more weight. When she wasn't adopted by anyone. She was then dumped at the local dog shelter. When she arrived it was obvious she had been starved. She had a tiny little body of skin and bones, wracked with pain. She couldn’t even lie down without suffering. She had been mistreated for months by a person- a veterinarian- who has given an oath to protect and care for animals but Ayten Hope was defiled and abused in a way that no animal should ever know.

The evil vet WILL NOT be allowed to get away with this. With all the good people in this world joining hands across the globe, we can change her misfortune and prevent another tragedy like this ever occuring at the hands of this cruel and sick woman again. Ayten Hope will give hope to all the others who perish at the hands of vile and negligent humans. Please help her today by signing and sharing. If you can please visit 'Let's Adopt Global' to see her rescue and give towards her treatment and rehabilitation or simply pledge your support. Ayten Hope thanks you all!

The question is why?

Hi,
I just finished reading about another animal who has been tortured by humans. I'm still crying. Why, that is the first and almost impossible question to answer... Why... Arn't we bigger better more inteligent then other animals? Why, did it give them pleasure? Why, didn't we train our children to love and respect others. Why do we not have any compassion anymore?

Is there no limit to the horrendous ability the human has to injure  helpless trusting loving pets?

I get notification of causes to my email account and the story of Titus broke my heart.  Just look at this baby's body the story goes that he and his owner were playing in the park. but here is a verbatim copy of the message.
His name is Tidus, and what happened to him, could happened to your dog…
Two weeks ago, Tidus was happily playing in the park with his owner, a normal evening walk/play socializing with other dogs in the park… All of a sudden, Tidus was nowhere to be seen.
His owner looked everywhere for him. He was wearing his collar, tag with telephone number, microchip, surely if he was lost he would be found and returned to her… Minutes passed, one hour and there was no trace of Tidus. The park and every adjacent street are combed. There was no trace.
Someone says he has seen a group of youngsters walking towards a solitary part of town walking with a tail wagging dog.
Tidus was found three hours later, and nothing could prepare it's owner for what she was about to find.

This baby is fighting for his life. Please help him...

FULL STORY ...CHIP-IN and more heartwrenching pictures please see link ..

If you can only give a dollar give it... some day you may need help too... but I pray to God it is never for anything like this.

Paralyzed Dog walks again - help for humans?

not a dachsund, my pit bull coco.

Hi,
this is wonderful... Copied verbatim
From CARE2

"Dogs with spinal cord injuries that prevented
them from using their back legs are able to
walk again, thanks to receiving a transplant
of cells grown from the lining of their nose.

You can see the results yourself for a
10-year-old dachsund, Jasper, via a video on the BBC. As his owner,
May Hay, noted:

“Before the treatment we used to have to wheel Jasper round on a trolley
because his back legs were useless. Now he whizzes around the house and
garden and is able to keep up with the other dogs. It’s wonderful.”

Out of 34 dogs in a trial, 23 had the cells injected into the injury site;
the rest received an injection of neural fluids. Many of those who had
received the transplants of olfactory ensheathing cells (OEC) were able —
quite miraculously —  to walk on a treadmill, with the aid of a harness.
Some dogs also regained bowel and bladder control though not in
significant numbers, say the Telegraph.

The olfactory system is the only part of the body in which nerve fibers
keep growing in adult mammals. Cells called olfactory ensheathing cells
(OEC) are found at the back of the nasal cavity. They are located around
the receptor neurons that help us smell and send signals to the brain;
they must be replaced constantly.

The researchers removed OECs from the lining of the dogs’ nose canals;
these were then grown in laboratories for some weeks. The transplanted
neural cells regenerated the nerve fibers across the dogs’ damaged spinal
cord regions, thus giving them use of their back legs again and also
helping them to coordinate movements with their front legs.

The study, by researchers from the U.K.’s Medical Research Council’s
Regenerative Medicine Centre and Cambridge University’s Veterinary
School, was the first in which the participants were not laboratory
animals but had “real life” health problems and injuries.

Could the Treatment Be Used For Humans?

Scientists have previously thought that OECs might be useful in treating
spinal cord injuries and are “cautiously optimistic” that they might help
to treat human patients. Initial trials using OECs in humans have shown
them to be safe.

Professor Robin Franklin, a regeneration biologist at the Wellcome Trust-
MRC Stem Cell Institute and co-author of the study, noted that “We’re
confident that the technique might be able to restore at least a small
amount of movement in human patients with spinal cord injuries but that’s
a long way from saying they might be able to regain all lost function.”
The new procedure might be used to treat those with damaged neural
networks, along with drug treatments and bioengineering.

Prof Geoffrey Raisman, chair of Neural Regeneration at University College
London, who discovered OECs in 1985, pointed out that the treatment was by
no means a cure for spinal cord injuries in humans. As he said to the BBC,
”This procedure has enabled an injured dog to step with its hind legs, but
the much harder range of higher functions lost in spinal cord injury –
hand function, bladder function, temperature regulation, for example – are
yet more complicated and still a long
way away.”

The new nerve connections that the OEC procedure made possible were for much
shorter distances than would be needed to connect the brain to the spinal
cord.

Still, for Jasper and the other dogs for whom the procedure was successful,
regaining the ability to move around must have been — must be — a thrill and,
as his owner tells the Telegraph, “utterly magic.” "

Science is wonderful!

Wausau dog torture story sparks national outrage

Please go sign this petition...

WAUSAU— The story of a Wausau woman accused of torturing and killing her boyfriend’s dog has sparked local and national outrage, inspired the creation of a Facebook page in the animal’s memory and prompted a petition calling for harsh penalties in the case.

Sean Janas, 20, is accused of causing the death of 4-year-old Mary, a shepherd-Labrador mix police say belonged to her boyfriend.

According to the criminal complaint, Janas was charged Monday with felony mistreatment and poisoning of an animal after police were given a copy of a diary that contained detailed entries Janas wrote about poisoning Mary with Drano, bleach and pills. She faces more than five years in prison and $30,000 in fines if convicted of all the charges against her.

Sidney Rose, 23, of Tomahawk, said she was sickened when she read the story and posted a link to the news article on her Facebook wall. When dozens of people commented on the link, Rose decided to take action by starting an online petition at Change.org, a social action platform that aims to promote change through social awareness.

The petition, which will be sent to Marathon County Circuit Judge Greg Grau and Marathon County Assistant District Attorney LaMont Jacobson, encourages officials to pursue the maximum penalty for this and every other animal cruelty case in the state.

She feed the dog drano and bleach over months then slit Mary's throat. She wrote in her diary about it..

Subject: Navy to deafen 15,900 whales and dolphins and kill 1,800 more

Hi,

According to U.S. Navy estimates, the use of high frequency underwater sound for testing in Hawaii, the California and Atlantic Coasts, and the Gulf of Mexico will deafen more than 15,900 whales and dolphins and kill 1,800 more over the next 5 years. Whales and dolphins depend on sound to navigate and live. Your signature and comment could stop this Naval program, potentially saving the lives of these ocean creatures.

That's why I signed a petition to U.S. Navy, which says:

"Stop the killing of 1,800 whales and dolphins and the deafening of 15,900 more by ceasing the operation of the Navy's underwater sound system in the Hawaiian Islands, the California and Atlantic Coasts, and the Gulf of Mexico."

Shelters are not the place to get a happy pet picture

Big Boy one of my ten Cats.. No I'm not a horder.. I also have one Dog - CoCo.
About 5years ago in November CoCp was found wondering at the side of the highway, she was picked up and taken ti the local store where they were trying to find her owner.. When I saw her, knowing she was part pit I decided I'd take her home. She was so little she fit in a plastic soda crate. I figure she was about 10- 12 weeks old.  Two months later at about 3 am I heard a kitten crying. there was the cat I now call grandma and the grandmother if this pride of cats.

She had a litter before I could afford to get her fixed.. her kittens were given to good homes and were spayed/neutered all except for one. Momma cat, yes another sad to say two litters.  b ut being careful about the homes they went to and the shelters being so full I just couldn't possibly dump them off at a shelter.. besides they were my babies. so O built a cat run it is 24 ft long by 8 ft wide with one wall 10 ft and the other 7ft so there is a shed roof on it. It has metal screening cloth fir walls and they access it via a window in my kitchen.
the cat bixes are outside and the cat stay pretty much outside. Here in Missouri you shouldn't let your cats run free because of Bob cat tick disease  real name -
cytauxzoonosis there is no cure and it kills.  99.9% of the time.

so the cat run.....
this is Momma

her mother above and a wild black cat I called black cat are her parents. she has  eight children. 3 tortioushell cats 2 black and white males and three solid blacks. ALL are fixed... thank the lord! The biggest of the black cats used to nurse on CoCo and still treats her as if she's the momma.

Our cat run....

By the way did you go feed the PETS -
